Welcome to Fall (or Autumn)! The weather turns cooler, the leaves turn pretty colors, the holidays are coming, and your skin is a mess.
It usually happens this time every year due to the change in the weather. In most areas of the U.S. the air gets drier and cooler. You spend more time indoors than out. And you probably drink less water because you’re not sweating all the dang time anymore! In Atlanta, Georgia, the weather tends to be cooler at night, but still somewhat warm during the day. Some people are already cranking their indoor heat as early as November, and that is horribly drying for your skin.
Luckily, there are several wonderful day spas in and around Atlanta where you can go and relax and rejuvenate, and get the best facial ever to ease you into the holiday party season. I’ve listed a few of our favorites below.
Jolie – The Day Spa
3619 Piedmont Road
Atlanta, GA 30305
Jolie – The Day Spa in Atlanta is part of the Halcyon Group. Halcyon, from Greek folklore, means calm, peaceful days. How very fitting as you will find yourself so much more calm and peaceful after you visit Jolie. They offer about 12 different kinds of facials and include one specifically for your teenager and one specifically for the man of the house. They also offer the “cool radiance” facial which is perfect for those of you with sensitive or sun damaged skin. Each facial lasts around 60 minutes and the price is in line with other day spas in the area. Call ahead and ask about their current specials. Women I spoke with highly recommend Julie as having a soft touch and very good at making you feel comfortable whether this is your first facial or your 1ooth.
88 W. Paces Ferry Road
Atlanta, GA 30305
This wonderful and calming spa is located in the St. Regis Hotel in Buckhead. It’s been called the “calm oasis” in the center of the city. As soon as you walk in you shed the clenched shoulders caused by the hustle and bustle of the world at large. This spa uses Laboratoire Remède products exclusively, thus the name! Their facial menu is limited to three types which does include one for men. Each facial is customized to your skin type and your lifestyle, so you get much better results. So saying they only have three types of facials can be misleading! All facials are available in 30, 60 or 90-minute sessions. And while you may catch a glimpse of a celebrity or two while you’re there, you won’t see any children as no one under 16 is allowed inside the spa. Also not allowed are cell phones! So leave yours in the car or turn it off.
3555 Gwinnett Place Drive
Duluth, GA 30096
This is the most unique day spa you will probably ever find, especially in Atlanta, Georgia! My BFF, Kary of Freedom & Cash, raved about this spa so I had to check it out for myself. I loved, loved, loved it! This Sauna and Spa is modeled after traditional Korean bath houses. It is open 24 hours, 7 days a week and offers men and women separate areas with showers and three different temperature sitting pools. Their pricing is different also, as you will pay an entry fee just to walk through the door and then you can pick and choose from many different individual services such as Foot Reflexology, Body Shampoo, and NINE different saunas. The body scrub includes a very basic facial. The women that work there are all kind and soft spoken. It is a super soothing place to be. Often you will be offered a hair shampoo as a complimentary addition to any service, but you really are expected to include all services when you leave your tip. It pays to be generous if you are planning to come back! Children are allowed. And while the separate areas are nice, the unisex area has more to offer with a lap pool, several saunas, napping areas and a traditional Korean restaurant.
Chateau Elan Spa
100 Rue Charlemagne
Braselton, GA 30517
(678) 425-0900 ext. 41
Get out of the city entirely and drive out to the luxurious retreat that feels like you stepped back in time. Styled after a fine French villa Chateau Elan Spa offers 10 different facials including couples, teens and a facial called “pure oxygen microdermabrasion.” This is described as a facial that uses the “microdermabrasion machine to polish the skin and then infuses pure oxygen into the deep layers of the skin to plump, firm and nourish the cells.” As with any facial, you get the most benefit out of a series of six and this is especially true of the pure oxygen facial. So when you purchase five treatments, you will get the sixth treatment free. When you come in for your facial you also have access to their spa whirlpool, wet eucalyptus steam, dry sauna, indoor pool, and fitness classes and no additional charge. The prices are always lower Monday through Thursday!
3376 Peachtree Road N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30326
This is THE place to go for celebrities, birthday and bridal parties, or anyone that appreciates real pampering in a luxurious setting. The Mandarin Oriental offers up four different types of facials including a chemical peel for $150. Facials peels are said to encourage cell regeneration and even skin tone. At the Mandarin this includes brushing the dead skin layers off your face and the process ends with a soothing massage. With this facial you need to know that you WILL continue to peel after treatment and also be more sun sensitive for several weeks. This is not the facial to get the week before your wedding! FYI – Mandarin Oriental is the former 29 Spa.
Please share this information with your friends and family so we can all have glowing skin throughout Fall and well into Winter.
